2020 Hyundai Kona

2020 Hyundai Kona vs Mazda CX-3 Engine Specs & Performance

Both vehicles are equipped with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engines that come paired with 6-speed automatic transmissions. The Kona and CX-3 offer similar performances in that they surpass the 145 horsepower mark.

However, the major advantage that the Kona has is that the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder isn’t its only engine. The optional 1.6-liter Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is capable of pushing the performance of the Kona further to 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque and comes mated with the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission. The Mazda CX-3 only offers the one engine.

Hatchback Technology & Entertainment Features

The Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-3 both come equipped with impressive technology and entertainment. Each hatchback includes a 7-inch dashboard-mounted touchscreen that lets you access the suite of media options available.

Both vehicles include AM/FM radios, Bluetooth® streaming and hands-free phone capabilities, and even USB and auxiliary inputs that can be used to connect portable media devices. The Kona also includes Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, both of which allow you to sync your smartphone to the available 8-inch screen so you can easily access your contacts, media library and even your apps! Unfortunately, the CX-3 touchscreen maxes out at seven inches, potentially making it less easy to access everything you need while on the road.

Hyundai Kona vs Mazda CX-3 Competing Cabin Spaces

Each of these hatchbacks offer a considerable amount of cabin space for their five passengers. However, it’s the Kona that has a commanding lead in front head room, with 39.6 inches offered to the passengers. The Mazda CX-3 only offers 38.4 inches, which may not seem like a giant difference, but 1.2 inches means a lot when it comes to cabin space.

The Kona offers 19.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, while the CX-3 offers 17.8 cubic feet, showing that the Kona is the better choice for the adventurous driver who’s looking to head out on a road trip.
